Irbid, Sept. 14 (Petra) -- An afforestation project combining land restoration with green employment has moved into field implementation in Koura District, targeting expanded vegetation cover while creating job opportunities for local residents and Syrian refugees.

Work has begun at the Sartaba site under the Green Jobs Project, which operates within the National Afforestation Program and is financed by the German Development Bank (KfW), Koura Agriculture Director Abdelilah Obeidat said Monday.

The project is designed to increase green areas and combat desertification while supporting the sustainable use of natural resources, linking environmental protection with economic and social development.

A key component is the creation of sustainable green jobs for members of surrounding communities and Syrian refugees, with afforestation activities intended to generate both environmental and livelihood benefits.

Obeidat said the project is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, with Khuyout Al-Ibtikar Consulting Company providing field supervision and follow-up.

The Sartaba works form part of wider efforts under the National Afforestation Program to strengthen vegetation cover and environmental security while embedding sustainable development practices within local communities.

According to the Agriculture Directorate, the start of field work marks a key implementation stage for the project, translating its environmental and employment objectives into activities on the ground.
