Swastika Found on Brussels Mosque in 'Islamophobic Act'
(MENAFN) A mosque in the Laeken district of Brussels was found defaced with a swastika late Saturday night, an incident Brussels Minister for Local Government and Equal Opportunities Ahmed Laaouej called an "islamophobic act."
The Nazi symbol was discovered around 1 a.m. local time (2300 GMT), Laaouej said in a statement cited Sunday by a news portal.
Police have been alerted and are preparing an official report on the incident.
Laaouej visited the mosque alongside Brussels Alderman for Religious Affairs Khalid Zian, offering support to the mosque's community and worshippers.
"The presence of a Nazi symbol is particularly serious," Laaouej said, condemning the act and emphasizing the importance of tracking down those responsible.
Authorities have opened an investigation and are working to identify the perpetrators.
