Global Rare Earth Magnets Market Poised For Strong Growth Through 2037, Fueled By Evs, Clean Energy And Advanced Electronics Demand
Dublin, Sept. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- "The Global Rare Earth Magnets Market 2027-2037" has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.
Rare earth permanent magnets have become a critical chokepoint in the global industrial economy. These essential components support electric vehicle traction motors, wind turbine generators, industrial automation, guided munitions, aerospace systems and humanoid robots. With production and processing capacity heavily concentrated in China, rare earth magnet supply security is now a strategic priority for manufacturers, governments, investors and defence organisations.
Over the past 12 months, the global rare earth permanent magnet market has been transformed by three interconnected forces: tighter Chinese export controls, unprecedented Western government investment and an approaching regulatory deadline for US defence supply chains.
China's April 2025 export controls on dysprosium, terbium and four additional heavy rare earth elements remain in place. Further controls covering holmium, erbium, thulium, europium and ytterbium are scheduled to take effect on 10 November 2026. Enforcement has also shifted from country-level restrictions to entity-level scrutiny. These developments have contributed to a two-tier pricing environment, with dysprosium oxide reaching approximately $2,100/kg and terbium oxide $4,800/kg CIF North America-substantially above Chinese domestic prices.
Western investment has accelerated in response. The Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital committed more than $8.4 billion in FY2026 and mobilised $17.8 billion in total capital. Major transactions include a $1.4 billion package for Vulcan Elements, a $725 million loan for Energy Fuels, a $1.58 billion Commerce arrangement for USA Rare Earth, a $150 million commitment to rare earth-free magnet developer Niron Magnetics and a $96 million Lynas supply agreement supported by a $110/kg NdPr price floor.
Industry consolidation is also changing the competitive landscape. Energy Fuels acquired Vacuumschmelze for $1.9 billion, while USA Rare Earth pursued Serra Verde. Meanwhile, new rare earth processing and magnet manufacturing capacity has progressed from planned development to operational production across Europe, Estonia, Malaysia and India.
The principal market constraint is now shifting from access to capital toward customer qualification, secure feedstock, specialist metallurgical expertise and commercially sustainable pricing. DFARS 252.225-7052, effective 1 January 2027, prohibits Chinese-origin magnets in US defence systems and establishes protected demand. However, announced US rare earth magnet capacity is approaching 40,000 tonnes, compared with credible domestic demand of approximately 17,000 tonnes. As a result, project success will increasingly depend on long-term customer contracts rather than funding announcements alone.
The new rare earth permanent magnet market report provides comprehensive analysis of the full value chain, including mining, separation, metallisation, alloying, magnet manufacturing, recycling and circular supply. It assesses demand across automotive, wind energy, consumer electronics, industrial automation, robotics, data centres, medical applications, aerospace, defence and marine markets.
Detailed rare earth magnet market forecasts to 2037 are segmented by application, material, performance grade, geography, revenue and rare earth content. The report also evaluates supply-demand balances, regional production capacity, recycling volumes and material recovery opportunities.
Key report coverage includes:
