Torres Strike, Safonov Heroics Lift PSG Past Brest 1-0
(MENAFN) Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain notched their first Ligue 1 victory of the campaign Sunday, edging Brest 1-0 away from home as goalkeeper Matvey Safonov turned back a series of second-half threats to protect Ferran Torres' early strike.
Torres broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, giving PSG — who had entered Matchday 4 with just two points to their name — the cushion they needed to withstand a resurgent Brest side after halftime.
The visitors struck early when Ousmane Dembele flicked on a pass from Joao Neves, sending Torres through to strike from distance and curl the ball into the bottom corner.
PSG carried that slim lead into the break, but Brest came out the sharper side after the restart. The hosts nearly leveled in the 50th minute when Kamory Doumbia pounced on a defensive lapse and beat Safonov, only to see his effort cannon off the post.

The hosts continued searching for an equalizer late on, but Safonov once again stood tall, keeping out Pathe Mboup's effort in the 88th minute to preserve the narrow lead.
The result lifts the defending champions to five points from four matches, marking their first league win of the season.
