American Diplomat Faces Investigation Over Suspected Child Abuse Images
(MENAFN) An American diplomat based in London was reportedly taken to the United States following a UK investigation into suspected indecent images involving children.
The diplomat, who is believed to work at the US Embassy in London, was reportedly removed from his residence in southwest London during a police operation on Aug. 25 before being flown to the US from a military airfield.
Materials were reportedly seized during the operation, while US authorities did not formally seek the diplomat’s extradition from Britain.
US personnel generally do not have the authority to make arrests in the UK. Any formal transfer of an individual facing criminal proceedings would normally have to follow British legal procedures, including extradition requirements where applicable.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that US authorities notified it on Aug. 25 about an investigation into suspected offenses involving indecent images of children in London.
"We continue to liaise with them regarding this matter," the police said.
