Dozens of Palestinian Journalists Remain Detained in Israeli Prisons
(MENAFN) Thirty-seven Palestinian journalists are currently being held in Israeli prisons, including 19 who are being detained without charge or trial under administrative detention, according to a Palestinian rights organization.
The group said all of the journalists were arrested after the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023 and accused Israeli authorities of continuing to target Palestinian media workers through arrests, imprisonment, solitary confinement and legal proceedings linked to their journalism and freedom of expression.
Among the most recently detained journalists are Muath Ammarna and Sabri Jibrin, who were arrested Thursday after Israeli forces raided their homes in Bethlehem in the southern West Bank.
The organization said Ammarna has faced repeated detention by Israeli authorities and is now being held for the third time in connection with his journalistic activities.
It also highlighted the case of journalist and writer Mahmoud Fatafta, who received a 48-month prison sentence over allegations described by Israel as “incitement.” The group characterized the punishment as among the most severe sentences imposed in cases of this kind.
