Indonesia Pushes for Stronger Developing World Voice in Global Affairs
(MENAFN) Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for developing nations to gain a stronger influence in shaping the international system, highlighting BRICS as an important platform for amplifying the voice of the Global South.
Speaking at the opening of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on Sunday, Prabowo said greater representation for developing countries is necessary to ensure they have a meaningful role in deciding the future direction of global development.
He pointed to the international community’s approach toward 2030, the deadline associated with the global development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. Countries have made commitments aimed at eliminating poverty, safeguarding the environment and strengthening institutions, he noted.
“These commitments remain firm. We must continue moving beyond 2030,” he said.
Prabowo argued that the 2030 Agenda should not be treated solely as a collection of goals to be completed within a fixed period. Instead, he said, it should contribute to giving developing nations a stronger position within the broader international system.
He stressed that strengthening cooperation among countries of the Global South through platforms such as BRICS could help developing economies play a more influential role in shaping global priorities and decisions.
