Trump Backs Rapid AI Growth to Preserve US Lead Over China

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has rejected proposals to slow the development of artificial intelligence in the United States, arguing that staying ahead of China in the technology sector is essential to maintaining American global influence.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump said the US currently holds a leading position in AI and stressed that Washington should focus on protecting that advantage rather than imposing measures that could limit the industry’s progress.

"Look, we're leading China in AI. We're the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way, because whoever wins AI wins," Trump said when asked whether tighter regulations or a slower pace of development were necessary.

Trump dismissed concerns over the rapid expansion of AI, arguing that some warnings about potential dangers are being overstated. He said "a lot of negative forces" are focusing on hypothetical scenarios and risks that may never actually occur.

Although he acknowledged that governments "can put guardrails" around emerging technologies, Trump maintained that his central priority is ensuring the US retains its technological advantage and remains ahead of China in the AI race.
