Trump Calls on Zelenskyy to Halt Russian Fuel Refinery Strikes
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop attacks targeting Russian diesel refineries, arguing that the strikes are contributing to disruptions in global fuel supplies.
Trump said Sunday that Ukraine should redirect its military operations away from Russian diesel production facilities, warning that continued attacks could worsen shortages in international markets.
"Mr. Zelenskyy has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia," Trump told reporters, adding: "Let him go after targets, but not diesel, because he's causing a shortage of diesel."
According to Trump, the current pressure on diesel supplies is not primarily linked to instability in the Middle East but is instead being driven by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He said US officials have raised the issue directly with Zelenskyy and made clear that Washington does not want Ukrainian forces targeting Russian refineries.
Trump argued that Ukraine has "plenty of other targets" it could strike without disrupting fuel production, saying attacks on Russian diesel facilities are "hurting the world."
Ukrainian officials had not immediately commented on Trump's remarks.
