Iran Warns US Forces Against Challenging Its Control of Hormuz
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s assertion that Washington controls the Strait of Hormuz, warning that American military vessels approaching the strategic waterway could face a response from Iranian forces.
IRGC Navy political affairs deputy Col. Ali Mohammadi challenged the US claim, saying American forces would quickly discover the consequences of moving closer to the strait.
“If that is the case, go ahead, bring one of your warships within 100 kilometers,” he said Saturday evening.
Mohammadi claimed US forces are aware that their vessels could be confronted if they approach the area, while pointing to what he described as a similar encounter in recent days.
He further asserted that several major foreign military forces have stayed outside the Gulf of Oman for months. According to his account, there are currently no US troops or military assets stationed in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz or the Gulf of Oman.
The IRGC official also said Iranian naval forces maintain “complete” surveillance over the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters. He added that ships traveling from Kuwait and Bahrain are monitored and could be subjected to action if they breach restrictions established by Tehran.
