Moscow Seeks Fresh Momentum in Ukraine Peace Talks
(MENAFN) Moscow anticipates that another round of trilateral negotiations over Ukraine could be held in the foreseeable future, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Sunday.
Peskov said discussions about arranging another trilateral meeting had taken place during recent diplomatic contacts, indicating that Moscow remains open to continuing the talks.
“As for the trilateral meeting, this has been discussed. We hope it will take place in the foreseeable future. In this regard, we are on the same page as (US envoy) Mr. (Jared) Kushner,” he said.
He explained that no fresh proposals are currently being considered, but said the planned meeting could provide an opportunity for the parties to explore possible alternatives and identify new approaches to the conflict.
“As for whether there are any new proposals — there are none at the moment. But that is precisely what the trilateral meeting will be for -- to look for some new options,” he noted.
Peskov also addressed remarks previously made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the potential deployment of European forces in western Ukraine. Putin had warned that such a move could be viewed as an act of war against Russia.
According to Peskov, the remarks were intended as a broader warning about the potential consequences of decisions being considered by European countries.
“He spoke in general about the mistakes that are being made and could be made, which is prompting Europeans to think about some political alternative,” he said.
