Trump Says He Told Zelenskyy to Cease Attacks on Russian Refineries

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Sunday he has personally urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cease attacks on Russian diesel refineries, claiming the strikes are driving fuel prices higher worldwide.

Trump made the remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew back to Washington, DC, from Ireland, pointing to disruptions in Russian fuel output as a strain on global supply chains.

"The problem I have with Ukraine and Russia is that a lot of the diesel comes (…) from Russia, and the Russian plants are being hit by Ukraine," he said. "I've asked President Zelenskyy not to hit the diesel plants, refineries."

Trump went on to argue that bottlenecks in exporting Russian diesel to international markets were fueling the price surge. "Diesel is being driven up by the fact that it's having a hard time coming out of Russia, and that's a case that hurts the world. We got to stop."
