Moew Forecasts Flash Floods, Rising River Levels In Parts Of Afghanistan
In a statement issued today (Sunday), the ministry said relatively heavy rainfall accompanied by possible flash floods was forecast in parts of the Kabul river basin and some of its tributaries from September 14 to 16.
The statement said flooding and rising water levels were also possible along rivers in Khost, Paktia, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Kapisa, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces, as well as in some tributaries of these rivers.
The ministry urged residents of downstream areas to avoid approaching riverbanks during flooding or when water levels rise.
The ministry also called on residents of upstream areas to promptly alert people in downstream areas if floods occur or river water levels rise, in order to prevent loss of life and financial losses.
