Rain To Reduce In South Bengal, North To Receive More Heavy Showers

(MENAFN- IANS) Kolkata, Sep 13 (IANS) In a relief to south Bengal, the Met Office on Sunday said that there is no forecast of heavy rain in the region for the next few days, but scattered light to moderate showers, along with thunderstorms, may continue in the area, including Kolkata.

A Met Department said that the current low-pressure area is located in south Chhattisgarh, and it has no further impact on West Bengal. The monsoon axis extends from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to Gopalpur in Odisha and extends to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

"Light to moderate rain with thundershowers is likely in Kolkata. Gusty winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The amount of rain will further decrease from tomorrow. The relative humidity in the air today is 77 to 95 per cent," the official said.

The rain will further decrease in south Bengal in the next five days.

Meanwhile, districts in north Bengal will continue to receive rain.

There is a Yellow Alert for heavy rain in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts on Monday, and the possibility of scattered rain in all the remaining districts.

There is a Yellow Alert for heavy rain in Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri districts on Tuesday, and for heavy rain in the Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts on Wednesday.

There is also a Yellow Alert for heavy rain with thundershowers at one or two places in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts on Thursday. After that, the amount of rain will also decrease in north Bengal, unless a new system appears in the Bay of Bengal in the meantime.

The maximum temperature in Kolkata and its surrounding areas on Saturday was 31.02 degrees Celsius, which is 1.03 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was 27.01 degrees Celsius, which is 00.07 degrees Celsius above normal. The relative humidity was a maximum of 95 and a minimum of 77 per cent.
