US Voters Show Growing Sympathy for Palestinians, Discontent with Trump
(MENAFN) Americans are showing stronger sympathy toward Palestinians while expressing increasing dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s approach to major foreign policy issues, according to a recent poll conducted ahead of the US midterm elections.
The survey found that 38% of registered voters said they sympathized more with Palestinians, compared with 35% who expressed greater sympathy for Israelis. Another 27% declined to choose either side.
The figures represent the highest level of sympathy for Palestinians and the lowest recorded support for Israelis since the poll began asking the question in December 2001.
The survey also indicated that 48% of voters believe the United States provides too much support to Israel, while only 8% said Washington’s backing is insufficient. Meanwhile, 34% viewed the current level of US support as appropriate.
Trump also received unfavorable assessments for his overall performance. Only 33% of respondents approved of the way he was handling the presidency, while 59% disapproved.
His foreign policy record received similarly low ratings, with 33% approving and 60% expressing disapproval. Regarding Iran specifically, 29% approved of his handling of the situation, while 65% disapproved.
Respondents were also divided over the continued presence of US forces in Iran. Thirty-nine percent favored maintaining the troops while negotiations toward a peace agreement continued, while 30% preferred a withdrawal without a negotiated settlement. Another 22% supported expanding military operations until Iran surrendered or accepted an agreement.
