Saudi Arabia Issues Emergency Alerts Amid Rising Yemen Fighting
(MENAFN) Saudi authorities issued emergency warnings on Saturday for Khamis Mushait Governorate and the city of Abha in Aseer Province, urging residents to remain alert to what was described as a potential danger. The warnings were later lifted after officials announced that the “danger has passed” in the affected areas.
Despite the cancellation of the alerts, authorities advised residents to “avoid gathering and filming,” according to reports.
The warnings came as fighting intensified in neighboring Yemen, where the Houthis have claimed control of strategically important areas close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait. These areas include Hays and Al-Khawkhah districts in western Al-Hudaydah province.
Clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have also increased across several other fronts, particularly in Taiz, Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda, alongside airstrikes targeting Houthi positions.
Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since the Houthis captured Sanaa and other parts of the country in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition entered the conflict the following year to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
