Gaza Hospital Generators Failing Amid Fuel, Oil Shortages
(MENAFN) A number of electricity generators powering hospitals across the Gaza Strip have gone offline due to severe shortages of oil, spare parts, and fuel, Gaza's Health Ministry said Sunday.
The ministry reported that several generators have broken down in recent days, cautioning that dwindling supplies of generator oil are making it increasingly difficult to sustain hospital power. It said the limited amounts of oil Israel has recently allowed into the enclave cover only emergency needs, far short of the roughly 2,500 liters hospitals require each month.
"The remaining generators are operating around the clock under difficult technical and mechanical conditions and are unable to meet the electricity needs of all life-saving departments," the ministry said.
Officials warned that additional generators could fail without urgent oil changes, and called for the immediate entry of essential supplies to keep the remaining equipment running.
Generators have become the primary power source for Gaza's hospitals amid a prolonged, territory-wide outage, with recurring shortages of fuel and spare parts repeatedly disrupting their operation.
Israel's war in Gaza, underway since October 2023, has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000, according to figures from Gaza authorities, while inflicting widespread destruction across the enclave.
