Authorities said 41 additional burned remains were recovered from the MV June Aster, raising the confirmed death toll from 35 to 76. The recovered remains are expected to be transported aboard the BRP Cape Engano on Sunday.
The number of people rescued from the incident remains at 43, according to officials.
The vessel’s passenger manifest listed 134 people in total. Of those, 13 are still missing, while two individuals whose names appeared on the list later confirmed that they had not boarded the ferry. Authorities cautioned that the figures could change as search, recovery and identification efforts continue.
