Türkiye Denounces Drone Attacks on Saudi Arabia From Iraq
(MENAFN) Türkiye has strongly denounced drone strikes launched from Iraqi territory against Saudi Arabia, calling for an end to actions that could further threaten regional stability.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory targeting Saudi Arabia,” the Turkish government said, according to reports.
Ankara reaffirmed its backing for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while commending Riyadh for taking a “restrained approach” intended to prevent tensions across the region from worsening.
Türkiye also welcomed Baghdad’s condemnation of the attacks and its decision to promptly investigate the incident in an effort to determine what happened and establish responsibility.
The Turkish government renewed its appeal for an immediate halt to attacks that could undermine regional security. It also urged all parties to refrain from actions that could contribute to further escalation.
According to reports, Saudi Arabia said earlier that drones launched from Iraq had targeted the East-West Oil Pipeline, resulting in injuries and property damage.
Riyadh said it had decided “at this stage not to respond” following a request from Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi, while maintaining that it reserved the right to take any necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and security.
