South Africa, India Seek Stronger Economic Cooperation
(MENAFN) South Africa and India are looking to expand their economic partnership across investment, trade, industrial growth and sustainable development, with President Cyril Ramaphosa calling for a fresh phase in bilateral economic relations during a business roundtable in New Delhi held alongside the BRICS Summit.
“We are ready for a new era in economic relations between our two countries,” Ramaphosa said, emphasizing the need for stronger cooperation between businesses to transform policy commitments into viable commercial ventures and sustained investment.
The BRICS gathering in New Delhi brings together several international leaders, including the presidents of China, Russia and Iran, as major global conflicts continue to shape the international economic and political environment.
India currently holds the rotating BRICS presidency, with China scheduled to assume the role next year.
Ramaphosa highlighted renewable energy, green hydrogen, critical minerals, infrastructure, agriculture and digital technologies as promising sectors for joint projects. He said South Africa’s mineral wealth, combined with India’s industrial and manufacturing expertise, could help drive production of electric vehicles, batteries and other advanced goods.
He also called on Indian businesses to participate in South Africa’s infrastructure development, pointing to 195 strategic integrated projects with a combined value exceeding $100 billion. The planned developments cover areas including transportation, renewable energy, water systems and healthcare facilities.
