Sisi Urges Stronger BRICS Cooperation to Build Economic Resilience
(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called Sunday for closer cooperation among BRICS members and partner countries to strengthen economic resilience as the global economy faces rapid changes and growing challenges.
Speaking during an open session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Sisi said stronger economic resilience depends on diversifying growth sources, reinforcing supply chains, investing in human capital and technology, and expanding cooperation among countries of the Global South.
He highlighted Egypt’s focus on innovation, artificial intelligence, technology transfer and technology localization, saying these areas can help developing countries benefit more effectively from the ongoing technological transformation.
On sustainability, Sisi urged BRICS members to deepen cooperation in renewable and clean energy, improve resource efficiency and make financing and technology more accessible to developing nations.
He also pointed to Egypt’s investments in ports, transportation corridors and logistics infrastructure, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Suez Canal as a major global trade route.
“Economic resilience cannot be separated from our ability to ensure food and energy security, maintain the smooth flow of trade and investment, and address supply-chain disruptions,” he said.
Sisi further called for greater trade and investment among BRICS members and partners, along with joint projects designed to strengthen economic integration and limit the effects of external economic shocks.
He also urged a stronger role for development finance institutions, particularly the New Development Bank, in funding infrastructure and development initiatives while expanding developing countries’ access to concessional financing.
According to Sisi, the diversity of BRICS members and partners gives the group an opportunity to establish a practical model for cooperation among Global South countries centered on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
The remarks came on the final day of the two-day BRICS summit in New Delhi. The expanded 11-member group consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
