Gaza Hospitals Face Generator Shutdowns Amid Fuel Shortages
(MENAFN) Several hospital generators in the Gaza Strip have stopped functioning because of severe shortages of fuel, oil and replacement parts, the Health Ministry said Sunday.
The ministry said multiple generators had gone offline in recent days, warning that dwindling supplies of generator oil were increasingly threatening hospitals’ ability to maintain electricity.
It said the limited amount of oil recently permitted into Gaza was enough only for emergency requirements, while hospitals need approximately 2,500 liters each month to keep their generators running.
“The remaining generators are operating around the clock under difficult technical and mechanical conditions and are unable to meet the electricity needs of all life-saving departments,” the ministry said.
The ministry warned that additional generators could also fail unless their oil is urgently replaced, calling for essential supplies to be allowed into Gaza immediately to prevent further disruptions.
Generators have become the primary source of electricity for hospitals across the enclave during the prolonged power outage. Their operation has repeatedly been disrupted by shortages of fuel, oil and spare parts.
Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023 has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000, while causing extensive destruction across the territory, according to Gaza authorities.
