Saudi Arabia Issues, Then Lifts, Danger Alert Near Yemen Border

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense issued alerts Saturday for the southwestern Khamis Mushait Governorate and Abha city in Aseer Province "to alert of a potential danger," before later announcing that "danger has passed" in both areas.

In a statement posted on X, the civil defense authority nevertheless urged residents to "avoid gathering and filming."

The warning came amid rapidly intensifying fighting in neighboring Yemen, where the Houthis have claimed control of strategic territory near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including the districts of Hays and Al-Khawkhah in the western Al-Hudaydah province.

Clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have also escalated on multiple fronts, particularly in the Taiz, Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda provinces, accompanied by airstrikes targeting Houthi positions.

Yemen has been gripped by conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, along with several provinces, in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to back Yemen's internationally recognized government.
