Yemeni Forces Strike Houthi Targets, Down Five Drones
(MENAFN) Yemeni government forces carried out airstrikes against Houthi positions, fighters and military equipment Sunday while reporting the interception of five drones belonging to the group amid intensifying clashes across the country.
The Yemeni Armed Forces’ media center said military aircraft conducted three strikes against Houthi positions and barracks in Al-Taba Al-Sawda and Jabal Al-Munim along the Al-Dhabab front in southwestern Taiz province.
Additional reports said airstrikes targeted Houthi fighters, military equipment and vehicles in the coastal city of Dhubab and on northern fronts.
The attacks destroyed several vehicles and weapons and killed Houthi fighters, although no specific casualty figures were provided.
Separately, the government-aligned Nation’s Shield Forces said its 6th Brigade shot down five Houthi drones in the Al-Aghbara area along the Al-Wazi’iyah front west of Taiz during ongoing clashes.
The latest developments come as territorial control has shifted significantly in recent days following renewed fighting between government forces and the Houthis that intensified in early July.
The Houthis have claimed control over several districts in the western coastal provinces of Al-Hudaydah and Taiz, as well as Red Sea islands including Mayyun Island, which is located near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Government forces, meanwhile, have reported gains in northern Al-Jawf province near the Saudi border and said their forces were advancing toward the provincial capital, Al-Hazm.
Yemen’s conflict dates back to September 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and expanded their control over several provinces. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
