Iraq Seizes Drone Launch Site Tied to Saudi Pipeline Strike

(MENAFN) Iraqi security forces have seized a drone-launching platform on Iraqi soil that was used to carry out an attack on an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, the head of Iraq's Security Media Cell, Saad Maan, said Saturday.

In a statement carried by state-run Iraqi news agency, Maan said "an intelligence and security task force made significant efforts and managed to locate and seize the launch platform inside Iraqi territory."

He added that investigative work is continuing, with forensic experts conducting technical documentation, examination and analysis "not only to seize the platform, but also through continued intensive field and intelligence efforts to identify those involved."

Maan also said Baghdad and Riyadh remain in contact at multiple levels to share intelligence and security information.

Earlier Saturday, Iraqi army spokesman Sabah al-Numan said security and intelligence agencies were continuing "pursuit operations to arrest all those involved" in the attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Separately, INA reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has approved a request from Iran for a joint investigation, after drone launch platforms were discovered near the shared border between the two countries.

The developments follow an announcement from Saudi Arabia on Friday that multiple drones launched from Iraq had struck the East-West oil pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions, causing injuries and material damage.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the kingdom has opted not to respond at this stage, following a request from Iraq's prime minister asking for time to let his government act to stop Iraqi territory from being used to launch attacks against Saudi Arabia and neighboring states.
