Konyaspor End Winless Start, Edge Trabzonspor 1-0
(MENAFN) Konyaspor snapped a four-match losing streak to open their Turkish Super Lig campaign, holding off Trabzonspor for a 1-0 home win on Saturday.
The hosts burst out of the gate, taking the lead just two minutes in through a slick move sparked from their own half. Jason Muleka sent Diogo Goncalves away on the left, and the Portuguese winger whipped a low cross into the box for Rajmund Toth, who tucked it into the bottom corner.
Konyaspor nearly made it two three minutes later when another low ball from Goncalves cannoned off the post via a deflection from Trabzonspor defender Stefan Savic. Sidny Cabral then fired just wide from range in the 77th minute as the visitors ramped up their pressure, controlling around 70% of possession as they pinned Konyaspor back in the closing stages.
Goalkeeper Bahadir stood tall late on, saving a powerful long-range effort from Fabinho in the 80th minute before denying Noah Saviolo from distance a minute later.
Konyaspor weathered the storm to claim their first points of the season, while Trabzonspor suffered their second loss in five league matches.
