Xi, Modi Discuss Shared Development, Stronger BRICS Cooperation
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping tells Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that China and India can pursue “shared development” by learning from “each other’s strengths” during talks in New Delhi on Saturday.
The two leaders meet on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit as Xi makes his first visit to India in seven years.
Xi urges the two neighboring countries to “join hands for high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation.”
The meeting marks another high-level encounter between Xi and Modi, with the leaders meeting for the third consecutive year. Their previous meetings take place in Kazan, Russia, in 2024 and during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin in 2025.
The Chinese and Indian leaders also meet at an SCO summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, this year, although they do not hold formal talks during that gathering.
Xi's latest trip to India follows a prolonged period of strained relations between the two countries. His previous visit takes place in 2019, several months before a military standoff between Chinese and Indian forces in Ladakh begins. The confrontation lasts for more than four years and pushes bilateral ties to their lowest level in six decades.
