al-Sisi Calls for Secure International Navigation Amid Regional Tensions
(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi calls for preserving the stability and freedom of international navigation as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
“The current developments in the Middle East and their negative repercussions on the global economy, trade and energy flows, and supply chains affirm the close link between security and development,” Sisi said during a closed BRICS summit session in New Delhi.
He stresses that Egypt's strategic position and importance to international commerce make the protection of maritime navigation a key priority.
“Given its strategic location and pivotal role in global trade, Egypt recognizes the importance of maintaining the stability and freedom of international navigation,” he added in his comments.
Sisi also calls for BRICS members to build on existing cooperation by launching practical initiatives that contribute to sustainable development, broaden economic growth opportunities, improve productivity and reduce technological and development disparities.
“We must continue building on what has been achieved within BRICS and utilize our countries’ potential by establishing specific projects and programs that support the Sustainable Development Goals, diversify sources of growth, enhance productivity, and narrow development and technological gaps,” he said.
The Egyptian president also expresses Cairo's interest in taking over the BRICS presidency “in the near future.”
He further reaffirms Egypt's intention to maintain close coordination with other members and expand cooperation across various sectors, with the aim of turning available resources and capabilities into “tangible partnerships that support development and achieve common interests.”
