Iraq Orders Security Investigations After Saudi Pipeline Attacks
(MENAFN) Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi dismisses the police chief of southeastern Maysan province and orders investigations into senior security officials following drone attacks on a major Saudi oil pipeline.
Military spokesman Sabah al-Numan says al-Zaidi, acting as commander-in-chief of Iraq's armed forces, “ordered the dismissal of the Maysan provincial police chief.”
The prime minister also directs that the heads of security agencies in the province be removed from their positions and referred for investigation, according to a statement.
The measures are announced “in light of the recent security breaches that occurred in the province,” although officials do not provide further details about the incidents.
The decision follows an earlier order by al-Zaidi to establish an investigative committee to examine the Maysan Operations Command. He also dismisses the command's chief as part of the initial response.
