Iranian President Calls for Stronger BRICS Cooperation Against Sanctions
(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian calls on BRICS members to strengthen cooperation against unilateral sanctions and create a permanent secretariat to make the bloc more effective.
“To enhance efficiency and accelerate the implementation of BRICS decisions, measures such as resisting unilateral sanctions, transforming competition into cooperation and establishing a permanent secretariat are necessary,” he said in his speech to the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
Pezeshkian outlines three key areas where Iran seeks greater cooperation within the group. These include closer political coordination grounded in the UN Charter and respect for national sovereignty, stronger economic and financial ties that are independent of “monopolistic instruments,” and expanded collaboration in science, technology, energy and food security to support countries across the Global South.
The Iranian president also raises the issue of Palestine during his address, saying that securing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination represents “a serious test of the credibility and legitimacy of global governance.”
“Any just solution requires respect for the will of the Palestinian people,” he said.
“BRICS, as a voice of justice, must play a more active role in ending the occupation and guaranteeing their legitimate rights,” he added.
