Trump Signals Iran War Could End Soon
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says relations between Washington and Dublin have reached an unprecedented level, while describing the bilateral trade relationship as “very profitable” for Ireland but less beneficial for the United States.
Speaking alongside Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin in Dublin after their meeting, Trump praises the longstanding partnership between the two countries and says Washington intends to preserve close relations with Ireland.
“We have a big relationship with Ireland,” Trump said. “It’s never been as good as it is right now.”
Trump says trade between the two countries has been “very profitable” for Ireland, while acknowledging that the benefits have been less significant for the United States.
“It’s less profitable for us, to be honest with you,” he said.
He also refers to his earlier discussions with Irish President Catherine Connolly, saying their meeting addressed several matters, including energy supplies to Europe and the situation in Northern Ireland.
Trump says the talks also touch on the complicated relationship between communities on both sides of the Irish border.
Addressing the prospect of Irish unification, Trump indicates that he supports the possibility while stressing that he does not "want to cause any problems" and would "love to see it unified."
