Israeli Fire Injures Palestinian Man in East Jerusalem

(MENAFN) Israeli forces shot and wounded a Palestinian man in occupied East Jerusalem on Saturday, the Jerusalem Governorate reported.

The man suffered moderate injuries after being shot in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood of Silwan, located south of the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the governorate.

The shooting coincided with the start of Jewish holidays, a period that has historically brought a rise in Israeli incursions into Al-Aqsa and attacks on Palestinians throughout Jerusalem.

A day earlier, on Friday, the Jerusalem Governorate had warned of escalating calls from Israeli groups pushing to impose Jewish religious rituals inside Al-Aqsa during the holiday period.

Al-Aqsa Mosque ranks as the third-holiest site in Islam. Jews refer to the site as the Temple Mount, asserting it as the location of two ancient Jewish temples.

Israeli forces have escalated operations across the occupied West Bank since Oct. 8, 2023, when Israel launched what has been described as a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip. Those operations extend into occupied East Jerusalem and have been accompanied by reports of killings, arrests, forced displacement, home demolitions, and settlement expansion.
