Vessel Transiting Strait of Hormuz Hit by Unidentified Munition

(MENAFN) A vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified munition Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

According to an online statement, no details have yet emerged regarding the condition of the crew, the scale of the damage, or the potential environmental impact stemming from the strike.

UKMTO said an investigation into the incident is now underway and urged vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity they encounter.

Traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz continues to run well below pre-war levels, with security risks and attacks on commercial shipping in the region persisting since the US-Iran war broke out this February.
