Iran Says Arab Ministers Prepare Hormuz Navigation Agreement
(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says foreign ministers from Arab countries are due to gather in Muscat on Monday to sign an agreement creating a joint maritime route between Iran and Oman through the Strait of Hormuz.
“This week, on Monday, the foreign ministers of the Arab countries will meet in Muscat to sign an agreement establishing a joint route between Oman and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and to notify the International Maritime Organization of the agreement,” Pezeshkian said in an interview published Saturday.
He adds that “The countries whose territories were used to launch attacks against us by the US will also attend this meeting,” referring to states that were allegedly involved in attacks against Iran.
Speaking about the ongoing conflict with the United States and the economic pressure facing Iran, Pezeshkian says Washington has been unable to accomplish its military goals and has consequently shifted toward economic measures.
“They could not achieve their objectives through war, which is why they turned to economic pressure, but we will not stop,” he said.
Addressing the US naval blockade imposed on Iran, the Iranian president says Tehran is not completely reliant on maritime routes and therefore does not depend entirely on sea access for its economic activity.
