Malaysian Prime Minister Calls for Diplomacy to End US-Iran Conflict
(MENAFN) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urges the United States and Iran to pursue dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve their ongoing conflict during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi on Saturday.
Anwar expresses concern about the prolonged confrontation and growing tensions across the Middle East, according to reports.
He calls on all sides to return to negotiations, give priority to peaceful diplomatic solutions and avoid taking further steps that could intensify the conflict.
The Malaysian leader also stresses the importance of keeping maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz open and secure in accordance with international law. He warns that any disruption to the strategic waterway could have major consequences for global energy supplies, international trade and the wider economy.
During the meeting, Anwar and Pezeshkian also discuss opportunities to strengthen economic ties between Malaysia and Iran. Their talks include potential cooperation in areas such as energy, agriculture, palm oil, food security, the halal sector, technology and higher education.
