Iraq, Saudi Arabia Strengthen Coordination After Pipeline Drone Strikes
(MENAFN) Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discuss the latest regional developments and ways to maintain close coordination between Baghdad and Riyadh during a phone call on Friday evening.
The two ministers reaffirm “the depth of the fraternal relations” between Iraq and Saudi Arabia while exchanging assessments of recent developments and matters of shared concern, according to reports.
They also highlight the need for “maintaining communication, coordination and consultations between Baghdad and Riyadh in a way that supports regional security and stability and strengthens bilateral cooperation,” according to the statement.
The conversation takes place shortly after drone attacks target Saudi Arabia from a location in Iraq's southeastern Maysan province.
Following the incident, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's media office announces on social media that he has ordered an investigative council to examine the Maysan Operations Command and has removed its commander from his position.
The move follows findings that the attacks against Saudi Arabia were launched “from one of the sites inside the province,” according to the prime minister's office.
