Modi Meets Regional Leaders Ahead of BRICS Summit
(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a series of high-level meetings with foreign leaders and the UN chief in New Delhi ahead of the opening of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit on Saturday.
Modi meets Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss ways to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries and assess progress in several important areas, including economic relations, defense and security, according to reports.
He also meets Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as part of his diplomatic engagements before the summit.
“The leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said, adding that Modi and Anwar exchanged views on key "regional and global issues of mutual interest."
Modi also holds discussions with Vietnamese counterpart Le Minh Hung, with the meeting focusing on developments in relations between the two countries.
The talks “provided an opportunity for both leaders to review the progress made in bilateral ties,” the ministry said, adding that the two leaders exchanged views “on various regional and global issues of mutual importance” and reaffirmed the “commitment to further strengthening their partnership.”
