North Korea Launches Missile as US Reaffirms Regional Defense Commitment
(MENAFN) The United States reiterates its commitment to protecting its allies in the region after North Korea carries out another missile launch, according to reports.
South Korean military authorities say Pyongyang launches an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea, also referred to as the Sea of Japan.
"We are aware of the recent missile launch and are consulting closely with our allies and partners," the US Pacific Command said in a post on US social media platform X.
"Based on current assessments, this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies. The United States remains committed to the defense of the U.S. homeland and our allies in the region," it added.
The US military later provides an additional update, saying it is monitoring several launches. Despite the multiple launches, its assessment remains that there is no immediate danger to American personnel, US territory or regional allies.
The latest North Korean missile activity follows the conclusion of a joint naval drill involving South Korea, the United States and Japan. The five-day Freedom Edge exercise takes place in international waters near South Korea's southern Jeju Island and ends one day before the launch.
