Zelenska Meets Philanthropist James Temerty In Canada

She recalled that a year ago, Temerty received the National Legend of Ukraine award from the President in recognition of his many years of support for Ukraine.

The Canadian philanthropist and his family were among the first to support the Olena Zelenska Foundation, beginning in 2022.

“Thanks to this assistance, we supported people in the de-occupied communities of the Kharkiv region, helping them rebuild their lives and get through the difficult winter months. We provided generators, heating equipment, household appliances and other essentials. It is especially valuable that our partnership did not end with that initial emergency phase. It developed together with the Foundation, evolving from urgent assistance to long-term solutions for children,” Zelenska said.

One of their joint projects is the reconstruction of a children's creative and sports center in Borodianka.

“We launched the project after our meeting in Toronto in 2023. At the time, we discussed how not only to rebuild what had been destroyed, but also to restore children's full opportunities for development. The center in Borodianka is now under construction. It will offer sports and creative programs ranging from boxing and football to choreography, aircraft modeling and robotics,” the President's wife said.

She invited the Temerty family to Borodianka for the center's opening next year.

“It will be especially important to see together the results of the cooperation we began discussing here in Toronto three years ago,” Zelenska said.

The First Lady and the philanthropist also discussed what they could do together going forward.

“Today, the Foundation is focused on long-term solutions for Ukrainian children: creating safe conditions for in-person education through the Safe School initiative, building homes for large foster families, supporting the education of children undergoing long-term treatment through the Superheroes School, and expanding the 12-21 Youth Spaces network to provide psychosocial support for teenagers and young people,” the President's wife said.

Zelenska thanked the Temerty family for standing with Ukraine throughout these years and for a partnership that began with assistance at the most difficult moment and today enables them to create more opportunities for Ukrainian children together.

As reported by Ukrinform, Zelenska also met in Toronto with the team of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF) and friends of Ukraine in Canada.
