Ukraine Helps Shape Global Policy On Developing Clean Sports

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to the press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ukraine is actively involved in shaping international anti-doping policy, as reported by Ukrinform.

Matvii Bidnyi has been elected as Europe's representative on the WADA Executive Committee for the 2025–2027 term. In 2026, Ukraine will chair OneVoice-an international platform that coordinates government representatives in the field of anti-doping efforts.

During the WADA Executive Committee meeting, a series of decisions were adopted aimed at strengthening the independence and effectiveness of the international anti-doping system.

One of the key decisions was to strengthen the independence of anti-doping testing at major international sporting events-the Olympic and Paralympic Games and world championships. From now on, the host country's anti-doping organization will not be directly involved in planning testing or collecting doping samples from athletes. This should help eliminate potential conflicts of interest and strengthen guarantees of fair testing.

Special attention was given to the work of WADA's independent intelligence and investigations unit. Plans call for expanding its tools to detect potential violations while adhering to national legal procedures and practices.

During the meeting, the list of prohibited substances and methods for 2027 was approved, and the areas of funding for anti-doping research and WADA's draft budget for 2027 were agreed upon. Work continues on the issue of regulating unintentional doping.

“Ukraine's presence and representation within WADA give the country the opportunity to influence decisions that shape the future of global sports, as well as to defend and represent the interests of the European continent within the international anti-doping system. We must influence the shaping of the international agenda, rather than passively implement decisions made without our participation,” noted Matvii Bidnyi.

On the eve of the Executive Committee meeting, the Ukrainian delegation participated in the work of OneVoice and a meeting between the platform's representatives and the Olympic Movement. As the chairing country for 2026, Ukraine coordinates the work of government representatives within the platform and participates in the formulation of common positions. Within OneVoice, government representatives from five continents coordinate their positions with WADA regarding the development of the international anti-doping system.

Ukraine continues its work within WADA and OneVoice, upholding the principles of clean sport and the independence of the anti-doping system. Ukraine's representation in international anti-doping organizations enables it to participate in shaping decisions that determine the development of the global anti-doping system.
