Rain, Thundershowers Likely Across J&K From Sept 14

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir on September 12 and 13, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers likely at isolated to scattered places during the late afternoon and evening.

From September 14 to 16, rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered to many places, particularly during the early morning and afternoon-evening hours, the Met Centre said.

The weather is expected to remain generally dry from September 17 to 22, with isolated rain spells.

The Met Centre has advised caution over thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at a few places during September 14 to 16. Farmers have also been advised to continue harvesting apple and paddy crops and other agricultural operations.

Meanwhile, a sudden hailstorm accompanied by strong winds during the intervening night damaged standing crops and orchards across parts of Beerwah in Budgam district.

Farmers reported damage to fruit-bearing trees, agricultural crops and other produce and urged the administration to initiate an immediate assessment of the losses.

The hailstorm struck Beerwah suddenly and affected agricultural fields and orchards. Farmers said the intensity of the hail and strong winds caused damage to fruit trees and standing crops, raising concerns over the impact on their seasonal agricultural income.

They said the damage occurred at a time when they were expecting returns from their crops and orchards after months of cultivation and care.

The affected farmers urged the concerned departments to send teams to the area and conduct an early on-ground survey of the damaged crops and orchards to ascertain the actual extent of the losses.

They said a timely assessment would enable the authorities to document the damage and determine the assistance required by affected farming families.

Farmers also appealed to the administration to provide compensation or relief under applicable government provisions, saying financial assistance would help them deal with the losses caused by the weather event.

They urged the concerned authorities to expedite the assessment process and ensure that affected farmers are provided necessary assistance after the damage is formally assessed.

Further details regarding the extent of damage and any official assessment by the administration are awaited.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked on Saturday after fresh landslides, mudslides and shooting stones affected multiple stretches in Ramban district, leading authorities to suspend vehicular movement on the strategic road.
Officials said traffic would not be allowed from either side until the affected stretches are cleared and the highway is restored for safe movement.
The blockade has been reported in the Ramban sector, including the vulnerable stretch around Mehad, where landslides and continuous shooting stones have hampered traffic movement.
Men and machinery have been deployed for clearance work, while authorities are assessing the affected stretches and working to restore connectivity.
Officials said the ongoing road clearance operation could take several hours depending on ground conditions and the movement of stones and debris.
Commuters have been advised not to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway until further instructions from the traffic authorities.
Other important routes in the region have also been affected by weather and road conditions, with restrictions reported on some stretches because of snow accumulation and maintenance work.
