Psychologist On New Social Contract: Same People Will Do Same Thing, Only Call It Something Else

“A social contract, like any contract, if possible, presupposes the equality of the parties,” Pokalchuk noted.

According to him, historical experience shows that theoretical concepts of a social contract have not been implemented in the form described by philosophers and political scientists.

“And the social ideas that have emerged since-I don't know-the time of John Locke, for example-are purely speculative. Even by their own authors, these socio-philosophical assumptions have never been effectively implemented, because that's not how it works. They're just nice words,” said the social psychologist.

At the same time, in his opinion, a certain social contract is possible in local communities, particularly at the level of local self-government. Although even there are certain caveats, because“all electoral tactics are linked to the corruption of local authorities.”

“That's why I don't believe in a social contract. Because if it's concluded by the same people as yesterday, they'll simply do the same things, only call it by a different name,” Pokalchuk believes.

As reported by Ukrinform, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that the issue of mobilization cannot be resolved without a new social contract and without real changes in the military.
