Zelensky Outlines Ukraine's Need For Patriot Missiles Ahead Of Winter

The Ukrainian leader noted that Russia is currently producing 140 ballistic missiles per month, whereas, according to NATO standards, a 1-to-2 ratio is required to destroy them-that is, 280 interceptor missiles. Zelensky emphasized that it is impossible to obtain such a number of missiles, adding that for Ukraine, receiving even 100 interceptor missiles per month is a“huge challenge.”

“I want to have 100–120 [interceptor missiles] for these difficult months, especially the cold months. We'll see how many months this winter lasts-that is, these cold months: one, two, three. We don't know. This is truly a major challenge,” Zelensky said.

The president noted that Ukraine could receive missiles from U.S. reserves or production, as well as as part of an aid package from Europe. He added that he is discussing supplies with countries in the Middle East.

Zelensky called on European countries to provide Ukraine with maximum support, also mentioning the pan-European anti-ballistic missile system FREYJA. He said that as part of this project, the goal is to receive the first such system for testing by the end of December, after which production will begin.

“This is a major experiment, but it is realistic,” the President said.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney agreed on substantial support for Ukraine in various areas, including seven new aid packages, six joint initiatives, and three cooperation agreements.
