Zelensky Ready To Meet Putin On Sidelines Of G20 Summit

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ukrainian president made these remarks in an interview with DW on Friday at the Canadian military base in North Bay, according to Ukrinform.

“Yes, of course. We have to go. We have to meet, talk, and make a decision,” Zelensky said, commenting on the possibility of such a meeting.

According to the Ukrainian leader, it doesn't matter what exactly he says to Putin or what Putin says to him.

“Only the result will matter. That's all,” Zelenskyyemphasized.

He also commented on the recent visit to Kyiv by U.S. President's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, calling it a“good sign” and a sign of respect for the Ukrainian people. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine, despite all the difficulties and challenges-including attacks by fighter jets, drones, aerial bombs, and missiles-is now“much stronger on the battlefield than it was last year.”

“Russia is losing more than 30,000 people every month, and that's a heavy price to pay for such slow progress on the battlefield. That is precisely why we believe we are in a strong position for negotiations,” Zelensky said.

He also noted that during the visit by U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoys, the issue of how to begin de-escalation was discussed.

“Perhaps some people don't like the word 'ceasefire.' For me, it doesn't matter who likes it and who doesn't. We like life. We want peace, and that's why we're talking,” Zelensky said, adding that a ceasefire regarding energy and grain could serve as a first step toward negotiations.

As reported by Ukrinform, it became known in April that the U.S. plans to invite Vladimir Putin to the G20 leaders' summit, which is scheduled to take place in December in Miami at a golf resort owned by Donald Trump.
