Kremlin: Trilateral Talks With US, Ukraine Still on Table
(MENAFN) Russia remains willing to negotiate with Ukraine and expects a trilateral meeting with the United States "in the foreseeable future," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Friday.
Speaking to Izvestia, Peskov said it's hard to gauge how productive such talks would be given what he described as a daily worsening of conditions for Kyiv. "We remain open to negotiations," he said. "We hope that, as was said with the American negotiators, in the foreseeable future we will be able to gather again as a group of three and continue the dialogue."
Peskov said Moscow's terms — and what it calls the root causes of its "special military operation" in Ukraine — are already well established and must be addressed in any settlement. He added that no final decision has been made on a possible meeting in China between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Asked about potential efforts by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sway Trump ahead of such talks, Peskov said the US leader has his own independent view of his relationship with Putin — one unlikely to be shifted by outside pressure.
Trump said Wednesday that Putin wants a deal to end the war and floated the possibility of a three-way summit with Putin and Zelenskyy. Last week, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Moscow and Kyiv for talks with both governments.
