Russia Signals Readiness for New US Ukraine Trilateral Talks
(MENAFN) Russia remains willing to pursue negotiations with Ukraine and expects another trilateral meeting involving Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington in the foreseeable future, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Friday.
Peskov said the outcome of any potential meeting would be difficult to assess given what he described as the worsening situation for Ukraine.
“We remain open to negotiations,” he said. “We hope that, as was said with the American negotiators, in the foreseeable future we will be able to gather again as a group of three and continue the dialogue.”
He said Moscow’s demands have already been made clear, along with the issues Russia says led to what it calls the “special military operation,” referring to the war in Ukraine.
Peskov also said there was still no final agreement on a possible meeting in China between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Addressing the possibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attempting to shape Trump’s position before such a meeting, Peskov said the US president has his own assessment of his relationship with Putin and is unlikely to have that view altered by outside efforts.
Trump said Wednesday that Putin was seeking an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine and indicated that a three-way meeting involving Putin and Zelenskyy could be held.
Earlier last week, US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Moscow and Kyiv, where they held discussions with senior officials from both sides.
