North Korea Fires Missiles; US Says No Immediate Threat to Allies
(MENAFN) The US military said Friday it is tracking North Korea's latest missile launch and reaffirmed its commitment to defending regional allies. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said Pyongyang fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea, also called the Sea of Japan, according to a South Korean news agency.
US Pacific Command said on X that it was "consulting closely with our allies and partners," adding that current assessments show no immediate danger to US personnel, territory or allies, and reaffirming Washington's commitment to defending the US homeland and the region. A follow-up update said the command was tracking multiple launches but that its no-immediate-threat assessment stood.
The launches came a day after South Korea, the US and Japan concluded their five-day trilateral Freedom Edge naval exercise in international waters off South Korea's Jeju Island.
