Chinese President Arrives In Delhi To Attend BRICS Leaders' Summit

HYDERABAD, Sept 12 (NNN) -- China's President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit, with his visit seen as significant for bilateral relations.

Xi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is the Chinese leader's first visit to India in seven years.

The Chinese president last visited India in October 2019 for an informal summit with Modi in Mamallapuram near Chennai, before relations became strained following the 2020 border clash.

Xi was received on arrival by Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Information Technology Jitin Prasada.

The Chinese president's entourage includes senior Chinese Communist Party official Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

“China and India are arranging for the bilateral meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Modi.

“This will be the third year in a row for the two leaders to meet with each other, following their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin,” the Chinese ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said in a post on the social media platform X on Friday night.

“China will work with India to act on the strategic guidance of the two leaders, handle the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, step up communication, enhance cooperation, properly handle differences, and be friends enjoying good-neighbourliness and partners helping each other succeed,” Xu said.

Meanwhile, Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung also landed in the Indian capital in the morning.

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr arrived on Friday night and is attending the summit in his capacity as the current chair of ASEAN.
