Dimitris Daskalopoulos Donates 51 Artworks To European Museums

(MENAFN- USA Art News) Greek entrepreneur Dimitris Daskalopoulos has donated 51 artworks, primarily by Greek artists, from his private collection to four museums across Greece and Scotland. This initiative forms part of his ongoing philanthropic efforts to broaden public access to contemporary art.

According to a statement, this donation aims to secure the long-term preservation of the works while fostering continued engagement with future art. The **National Gallery of Greece** will receive 29 pieces by Greek artists such as Io Angeli, Yiannis Spyropoulos, Konstantinos Andreou, Christos Sarakatsianos, Yiannis Psychopedis, George Vorres, and Kostis Georgiou, created between the 1960s and 1990s. MOMUS–Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki is set to acquire 16 works by artists including Subodh Gupta, Seth Price, Kelley Walker, Elias Kafouros, Haluk Akakҫe, Catharina Van Eetvelde, Stefanos Tsivopoulos, and Alex Hubbard. The **Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete** will receive three works by Nobuko Tsuchiya, Ioanna Pantazopoulou, and Nana Sachini. Additionally, **National Galleries Scotland** will gain three works by Mike Kelley, Bruce Nauman, and Margarita Myrogianni.

The statement noted,“The inclusion of works by Greek artists within the collection's museum donations reflects a commitment to promoting contemporary Greek creativity and increasing its visibility on the global cultural stage.” Daskalopoulos, who founded and chairs Damma Holdings, a financial services and investment firm, built his wealth in the Greek food industry. His extensive collection comprises over 500 works, encompassing installations, sculptures, drawings, collages, films, and video by 220 international artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Robert Gober, David Hammons, Annette Messager, and Ernesto Neto.

Prior donations from Daskalopoulos's collection include more than 350 works transferred to the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, the **Tate**, the **Guggenheim Museum** in New York, and the **Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago** in 2022 and 2023. An additional six pieces were gifted to the Guggenheim Bilbao in 2025.
