Canada Announces Seven New Support Packages For Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Office of the President of Ukraine said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have agreed on substantial support for our country in various areas: there are seven new aid packages, six joint initiatives and three cooperation documents," the statement said.

In particular, Ukraine and Canada will establish a mechanism for supplying drones as part of the Defense Drone Initiative Marketplace (DDIM), a national digital marketplace modeled on Ukraine's Brave1 platform. A new partnership will also be launched between Canada's General Dynamics Mission Systems – Canada and Ukraine's Green Tech Harvest to develop and produce drones and related technologies. In addition, an intergovernmental partnership will be developed for the joint production of drones, counter-drone technologies and ammunition.

Canada will provide additional investments to strengthen Ukraine's defense and long-term security, the statement said. This includes $350 million to supply interceptor missiles for air defense systems under the JUMPSTART initiative and $23 million to strengthen the capabilities of Ukraine's security system.

To rebuild and strengthen Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Canada is providing nearly $435 million in loan guarantees through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, including for purchasing gas for the winter and additional generators in case of electricity shortages. Another $10 million will go to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and energy infrastructure. In addition, $2 million will be provided for a joint program with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to support the development of Ukraine's energy resources.

For Ukraine's reconstruction, Canada is allocating $200 million in concessional loans through Export Development Canada.

To support Ukraine's National Veterans Strategy, a multi-donor fund will be established to help veterans and their families. Canada will provide more than $40 million for the recovery, rehabilitation and adaptation of Ukrainian veterans to civilian life.

In addition, Canada will impose sanctions on eight individuals involved in violations of the rights of Ukrainian children. As co-chair of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, Canada is allocating about $6 million to support efforts to return and reintegrate Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.

The leaders announced an initiative by Canada and Ukraine on critical minerals.

The Office of the President added that Canada's total assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion has exceeded $26 billion.

As reported, Canada plans to send one-third of all combat drones it produces to Ukraine.
